Week 9 - Audio Editing

For this week, we were required to complete the module 3 assignment. This time around, we were given the opportunity to explore the audio editor such as AUDACITY. Audacity is a free shareware for recording and mixing audio tracks from different sources. You can download and install it from http://audacity.sourceforge.net. Choose earlier, more stable version (not beta). You can export mixed tracks from Audacity into a WAV file. WAV file is large, but it is suitable for putting on CD and playing in the studio. Export WAV function always worked better in Audacity. If you want to export the mixed tracks into more compact MP3 files, you might need to download and hook up some plug-ins. Also, there is a number of audio conversion software packages, which will allow you to convert WAV into MP3 files. 

Through this audacity software, we were given 3 task. The first task is to create our own ring tone. I had chosen the song "I LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE" by Eminem and Rihanna. I had cut certain part that I think suitable to be used as a ringtone. 



For task 2, we were required to combine two songs and make it flow nicely. I had mixed the song "BEGGIN'" by Madcon and "MISERY" by Maroon 5. 

Lastly, we need to put away the clapping and noise from the Siti Nurhaliza and M.Nasir's songs.

Week 7 - Module 1's Progress

For this week, we were all given the time to finish or completed the module 1. I had used the 3 hours class to complete the module as fast as I could. For this module, I had learned so many input that related to the technology that I could implement in the classroom later for example GIFS. Before this, I did not know what is GIFS. After I'm doing this module, I already know what is Gif. According to WEBOPEDIA, gifs is 
"Pronounced jiff or giff (hard g) stands for graphics interchange format, a bit-mapped graphics file formatWorld Wide Web, CompuServe and many BBSs. GIF supports color and various resolutions. It also includes data compression, but because it is limited to 256 colors, it is more effective for scanned images such as illustrations rather than color photos."  Below is the example of GIFS. 

 Besides that, I had leaned on the software on how to convert PDF files into Microsoft Words or Microsoft Power point, how to download IDM (Internet Download Manager), and many more.
Other than that, I felt very lucky to be able to finish my task within the time given. I am really glad to acknowledge many useful software that could enhance and sharpen my soft skills. I think, that's all for this week. Till we meet again next week.

Week 6 - First Module

Hye, we met again this week. For this week, we had received our very first module. It was quite thick and it consist a lot of tutorial about how to get to know certain software, how to use search engine and how to convert certain files into another type of files. At first, I thought that, this module will be collected at the end of the semester. However, Puan Foziah did ask us to return it back after two weeks. So, I need to be quick and smart enough to plan my work so that, I could finish it by the next week. There's a lot of benefits that I gain through this module such as, I get the chance to learn on certain software such as Real player, 4shared, and so on. Therefore, I would like to thanks Puan Foziah for working so hard to compile all the steps in this module successfully. I think, its time for me to continue completing my module. Perhaps, we could meet again next week.

Week 5 - Developing Teaching Aids By Using Technology.


This was already the fifth week for this semester. For this week, we need to collect as many teaching aids that related to technology as we can. We need to collect the teaching aids according to the stages in the lesson plan. There must be teaching aids in set induction stages, pre-stages, while, post and closure. each of  the stage must consist various teaching aids such as e-book, video, power point presentation, flash card, songs, and many more. Before we proceed with the collection, we need to choose a topic from the syllabus and I had chosen the topic Year 4 Unit 6: Moving Around and  Year 6, Topic 6: Splashes of Colours.

4th Week Reflection

3rd Week Reflection

          Salam 1 UM. This was the 3rd week of studying in UM. For this week, Puan Fauziah had told us to work in group of six. My group member was Haniff, Faiz, Izzati, Halimah and Sarah. For this task, we need to refer to the book ‘TEACHING ENGLISH IN THE PRIMARY CLASSROOM’ written by Susan Halliwell. After the discussion, we need to present it by using the PowerPoint presentation.

The topic that we need to discuss was ‘Working with young language learner’.  Young learner’s brain is not a blank slate.  When they enter the classroom, they bring together well establish set of instinct, skills and characteristics which could help them to grasp the knowledge well.  There are six major abilities that could help children to be cognitively mature in language learning which are:
ü  Children’s ability to grasp meaning
ü  Children’s creative use of limited language resources
ü  Children’s capacity for indirect learning
ü  Children’s instinct for play and fun
ü  The role of imitation
ü  The instinct for interaction
Our group was focusing on the last abilities that the children have which is the instinct for interaction and talk. As we all know, children loves to talk. They frequently asks questions to the elders and sometimes, we become speechless when there are too many questions to answer. We cannot blame them. It is their instincts that lead them to do so. We as a teacher must understand this natural or inborn abilities that the children have so that we would not demotivated them or punished them.  For that reason, we could integrate speaking activities such as role play, spelling bee and so on. This could give them a better platform for students to express themselves through meaningful speaking activity.



Other than that, we had been explain briefly by Puan Foziah about assignment 2 where we need to find as many teaching aid such as video clip, pictures, flash card, songs, and stories as we can. This is due to the assignment 3 where we need to use the material. She stressed that she loves to see us having a lot of teaching aids and that mean we must have bundles of material before we proceed to the assignment 3.
I think, this was the end of my 3rd week reflection.  Remember, if a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.
